Esker Business Rules Engine

The Esker Business Rules Engine is at the heart of the Esker Document Process Automation solution. Based on proven and patented technologies, it allows the automation of virtually any paper-based business process in any type of organization.

How it works

Esker Business Rules Engine is based on 5 steps:

Capture

Capture automates document catching from any type of source such as fax, scan or print in any type of format (TIFF, XML, PDF, IDoc, etc.). This step splits, rotates, improves or converts documents in order for them to be properly analyzed by content analysis.

Content Analysis

Content analysis extracts all or part of the information contained by the captured documents. It restitutes the data under the form of an XML structure attached with an image of the document. The content analysis works on structured documents such as static forms or it can intelligently research fields wherever they are displayed in the document. This last feature, entitled Dynamic Document Capture (DDC), is used mostly to "read" sales orders or invoices.

Validation

Validation is a web-based collaborative workflow allowing end-users to validate the content of the document which has been extracted by the previous steps. Validation also allows people to add information that is not displayed on the document such as internal accounting or VAT codes. In this step end-users can improve, approve or reject the data or the documents before delivery outside the company or into their ERP systems.

Content formatting

The content formatting service transforms any data/document into an interactive and professional-looking document. Application output or incoming raw data is improved to include text lines, fonts, logos, and bar codes. The formatting service can also be used to convert a data structure (i.e., XML) into another proprietary format (i.e., IDoc). This service can also create charts, graphs and sub-calculations directly within the document.

Delivery

Delivery service provides a wide and flexible set of delivery mechanisms enabling document to be sent to the right destination. Delivery mechanisms include print, PDF, fax, mail services, email, Web, XML, SMS, and electronic archive.
